Jewish Folk Songs (Choral) - Martin Behnke

Two traditional seasonal folk melodies "Hanukkah, O Hanukkah" and "Candles of Hanukkah" provide the material for this set. The first movement is in a traditional style throughout, using the folk melody as the basis for a joyous dance-like movement. The second movement begins mysteriously, reminiscent of the Gil Evans/Miles Davis collaborations, before bursting into a driving three-four treatment that builds until the energy can no longer be contained. This piece programs very well as a set, although each section stands on its own and can be programmed individually.
